This painting’s title is in reference to the 41 Australian soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

As the daughter of a Vietnam veteran [AATTV], from a family that spans generations of military service, and having been the partner of a former SASR soldier, I am keenly aware of the enduring ripple effect created by the memories of these 41 soldiers—and indeed all soldiers, living and fallen—that continues to live on in their comrades. The combat soldier’s capacity to see the bigger picture, act selflessly, rely on teamwork, and confront constant danger while the rest of us live safely is something I find both humbling and extraordinary.
