My name is Eleni Karathanasi, I am an emerging artist living in Sydney, originally from Samos Island, Greece.
This work ties to my Greek heritage and my connection to the local community of the Georges River area and specifically Kogarah, the place that has been my second home for almost twelve years.
The painting depicts a sculpture called “Australia and Lemnos” from the Greek artist Takis Kozokos.
I consider it part of the local urban landscape as well as a powerful reminder of the courage and solidarity between people and countries during challenging times.
