My painting depicts an ANZAC Day Aussie tradition, the game of “Two Up”.
Here we find a group of station workers in a worn out tin shed somewhere in the outback. Among the group is a young digger, on leave or about to head off to represent his country, as so many did.
I’m inspired by traditional Australian artists like Tom Roberts, and there’s a subtle nod to Tom in the gap in the back wall. I also like to exaggerate the human form slightly, to enhance movement and feeling.
Choosing not to go into too much descriptive poetic detail, I’d like the painting to tell its own story and allow the viewer to relate to it in their own way.
